Receptor

A protein on a cell that binds a specific signaling molecule and triggers a cellular response.

Most peptide drugs act through G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) on the cell surface. Receptor identity determines tissue distribution, downstream signaling, and side-effect profile. GLP-1, GIP, glucagon, melanocortin (MC1R-MC5R), and amylin receptors are all GPCRs.
