BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound, 15 amino acids) is a synthetic pentadecapeptide derived from a segment of human gastric juice protein. It is heavily marketed in fitness and recovery communities for tendon, ligament and gut-barrier indications.

Claims vs evidence

  • Tendon / ligament healing — promoted heavily; supported only by rodent models and a handful of open-label human pilots
  • Gut barrier protection — animal-model evidence in IBD-like injury
  • Anxiolytic / neurotrophic effects — preclinical only

Why we grade it C

The preclinical literature is large and consistent, but no adequately-powered human RCT has been published. The compound is not authorised by EMA, MHRA, Swissmedic or FDA. National pharmacies in NL and DE have issued advisories against compounded sales. Promising mechanism, far from translated.
