ARA-290 (cibinetide) is an 11-amino-acid synthetic peptide derived from the helix B sequence of erythropoietin (EPO). Unlike full-length EPO it does not stimulate erythrocytosis; instead it signals through the innate-repair receptor to suppress inflammatory injury. Developed by Araim Pharmaceuticals.

Status

  • Phase 2 in sarcoidosis-associated small-fibre neuropathy
  • Phase 2 in painful diabetic neuropathy
  • No regulatory authorisation

Why we grade it C

Multiple completed Phase 2 trials with consistent signal on neuropathy endpoints. Mechanism is novel and non-redundant with existing analgesics. Promotion above C requires Phase 3; no active sponsor has progressed the molecule into a pivotal programme as of writing.
