A drug that activates the GLP-1 receptor, increasing insulin secretion and slowing gastric emptying.
Originally developed for type-2 diabetes, GLP-1 receptor agonists also produce substantial weight loss and have shown cardiovascular and renal benefits. Semaglutide (Ozempic/Wegovy) is the most prescribed example; tirzepatide (Mounjaro/Zepbound) adds GIP receptor agonism for stronger effect.
