Amino acid

Also known as · AA · residue

The molecular building block of peptides and proteins, consisting of an amino group, a carboxyl group, and a variable side chain.

Twenty proteinogenic amino acids occur naturally. Peptides are short chains (typically up to ~50 residues); proteins are longer. BPC-157 has 15 amino acids; semaglutide is a modified 31-amino-acid analog of GLP-1.
