MOLECULAR INFORMATION

Molecular information

Type
Synthetic GHRH(1-29) analogue · stimulates pulsatile GH release · daily subcutaneous

Sermorelin is a synthetic analogue of the first 29 amino acids of GHRH, the biologically active fragment. Historically FDA-authorised (Geref) for paediatric GH deficiency; the originator marketing authorisation was withdrawn in 2008 for commercial — not safety — reasons. Now widely compounded by US wellness clinics and sold grey-market in the EU.

Status

  • Originator authorisation withdrawn; current use is via compounding pharmacies and online sources
  • No EMA-authorised product
  • Limited but real clinical history in paediatric GH deficiency

Why we grade it C

Documented historical regulatory authorisation gives mechanistic credibility, and small contemporary studies in paediatric GH deficiency exist. But the adult / wellness-clinic use case has no adequately-powered RCT, and the current supply chain is not authorised in the EU.
