503A compounding

Also known as · 503A pharmacy · 503A compounder

A U.S. regulatory category permitting state-licensed pharmacies to compound customized medications for individual patients on the basis of a valid prescription.

503A compounders cannot manufacture bulk inventory or ship across state lines without restrictions. The category became central to U.S. peptide availability after the FDA placed several peptides (including GLP-1 agonists during the 2024 shortage) on the 503A bulks list.
